...what would you drive???
It's easy to dream about money-no-object super cars...but I suspect many of us are driving toofahs because the cost of the car IS an issue So, let's say you had $10K to purchase a used sports car (restoration and repairs not included)...anything but a Porsche. What car would you hunt down?
At the top of my list (in no particular order):
Opel GT
VW Scirocco
VW Karman Ghia
Nissan 240Z, 260Z or 280Z
Corvair
Mazda RX7 (the original body style)
There's lots more on my list, but I'll stop at six. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I don't really use my 924 as a car, it is a hobby, I have other vehicles for daily use.
So, if I had to replace it as a hobby vehicle, I would look for something relatively simple, relatively abundant, something like:
240Z
But really I think the next step for me is to build something myself, likely some sort of Lotus Seven inspired home build. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Fiat Coupe 2.0 turbo, five cylinder version
Alfa Romeo GTV6
Mazda RX7 turbo, mid and late 80's version. IMHO it looks better than that later twin turbo crap.
I'd also be interested in Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6 or 1.9, if it would be in 100 % original condition and never owned by a teenager. _________________ Mikko

Haha, a lot of them are still rust buckets here but I still love the way they look. I mostly see MGB and MGCs but every so often I'll see a nice Midget example.

Very rarely see MGC's. I owned one back in the day, but haven't seen one since...25 years. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you are goin' all the way."

They are hugely overpriced over here like old Fords. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

914, Miata, Gen I or II RX-7.
Dan, have you driven an Opel GT? The one I drove was awful. I had a Manta (same mechanicals) that was a much better balanced and better driving car. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Another vote for an RX-7.
Decent 4x4 would be nice. _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor

Nope, never driven one, and I've heard before that they're awful. But there just so darn cool-looking, I don't think I would care! Could be a good platform for an engine swap if you could find one that wasn't rotting to dust. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
