I am in Arizona right now, and there is an 83' 928 Euro right in Scottsdale. According to the ad, this guy spent some good time upgrading the shark.

What do you guys think about it?

Beautiful car, make sure it isn't a hackjob (which doesn't seem to be the case but you can never be too sure) and all should be swell. I take it the ROW powerplant was swapped in after the rebuild of the heads, transmission etc. seeing how he mentions the shaving of US marker lights. It's an American car but has had the ROW engine swapped in.

The ad itself is pleasing as hell and the price is right. I'd definitely take a closer look. Make sure the seller provides accurate documentation/receipts of the build.

Beautiful car, looks to be a very solid build (if the car was built properly it should be like brand new)...shame that it's not the 5 speed...

Let us know how it goes, I'm very curious.

Sounds a little too good to be true, I'd be suspicious until I saw the car in person. If this guy has done the work he claims, he should have no problem getting you the engine code. Ask him for it, and we'll verify if it is truly a Euro. Then when you go see it in person, make sure the number matches what he said.

If it checks out, I'd talk him down to $5500 or so and be happy with a good deal.

I just talked to the guy. He said there is 194k on the car. Is this bad, even if everything is updated and kept up good?

CIS = Constant injection system its the early form of fuel injection. Its mechanical injection. the later 928s had electronic fuel injection and are more reliable IMO. If this car had EFI then the price would be worth it.

Slight correction: CIS=Continuous Injection System

IMO, and from experience, the least reliable thing about my Euro Shark has been, well, nothing. The electrics are far more of a concern than the CIS. If the car is currently running and hasn't sat for long periods of time, then I doubt there's much to be concerned with regarding CIS. In fact, I'd be more worried about the delicate electrics in the early iterations of EFI than I would the mechanical fuel injection.

194K is a little higher than I'd prefer, personally, but given the age, it's not at all unreasonable (works out to ~7500 miles per year). These are very well made engines, if properly maintained it really should not be any big deal. But I thought this had a motor swap, no? If so, you need to find out how many miles on the engine as opposed to miles on the odometer.

$5K-$6K for that car is not a great deal by any stretch. But as I said before, if the numbers match up, and it is as described, it's not a rip off either. Just look at it this way: you can easily spend 2x, 3x, or even 4x that much on a 951, and this car is quite literally twice the car that a 951 is. Even if it doesn't have twice the HP.

Why not auto? It's a big GT, not a Lotus.

Agreed. It is widely known that the auto trans in the 928 is lightning fast. All else equal, an automatic-trans-equipped shark will beat its manual-trans-equipped sibling every time.

Just something about making a turn as you slam it into 2nd gear and stomping on the gas makes it worth it. Sure it could be done in an auto but it just wouldn't be the same. More fun to me anyway.

Don't get me wrong, my EuroShark is a 5 speed with the Getrag style box...I love it and wouldn't trade it...but when it comes to the 928, it is one of the few cars that I would be willing to own with an auto trans...so my point, don't rule out the shark just because it's got an auto. It's not a toofah, ya know!

I would certainly love to take home this one in Arizona. Unfortunatly, my family and I drove here from Nebraska, and are driving 1,000+ miles back. I would hate for something to go wrong with it the trip back.

What do you guys think about driving it back that far?

If the other vehicle has a hitch... you could always rent a wheel dolly & tow it back. Or drive it back knowing you could rent a tow dolly if you need it.
