Can I just make sure I understand your issue correctly.

You were running, the car stopped, then you tried starting the car with starting fluid (here it gets a bit fuzzy) and no additional fuel i.e empty tank, but it would not even think about firing, at this point the wires to the coil and the plug leads were hot (how hot?). Is this correct.

WOW and I thought I was impulsive

Sunday early afternoon : car won't start
Sunday late afternoon : try to fix
Sunday night: get drunk, sleep
Monday morning : determined as unfixable and selling for parts
Thursday night : got it repaired and removed from market

If the governement could act as fast as you we might get somewhere!
