bob you should talk to these guys and try to get the VINs of all those poor cars for the registry.
i've been looking hard but all i've found are two 944s and one 924 or 944 that went by too fast to tell. i chased it but it got away ( i was in my pickup ).

Yeup. You'll probably want to go with the 968 torque tube though, it's a better design than the 944 version.

the car would also be faster b/c of closer gear ratios. correct? shit, i don't know if i wanna put the money down to fix the clutch or just buy a 968 transmission. how much can you get a 968 6-speed for?

I have heard that the 6speeds are not very reliable. Something about ring & pinion failure -- but this may be due to the 968's large amount of torque. Either way, if you're thinking seriously of this swap, check out with 968 owners about the reliability of the 6speed versus the 5speed.

I've seen 968s running the 6 speed with 500ftlbs of torque, so I don't think the torque is the problem.

They can be had for anywhere between $500 and $4000, depending on where you get it from, condition, and whether or not they have a LSD.
