i want it to be slightly louder than stock but still relatively quiet.

I'm running 2.5" on the racecar, doesn't suck exactly! Yes, this with a single large oval muffler back under the trunk should sound decent. I have such a muffler, a Thrush brand I think, big and heavy but works well when I need to get the car quiet for DE's (normally, with the full race exhaust, it's too loud to communicate).

The stock exhaust manifold seems to quiet up the car a good bit as well; when we ran a single supertrapp at the end of the pipe with stock exhaust it was still rather quiet. Though note that this was also with like 2" piping IIRC. So if you find that the straight piping and single oval muffler is too quiet, that might be one option to consider for both more noise and performance.

Then again, it's quite a bit of money (about $250 for a new header) and wrenching; if you don't wish to go to that much trouble, you could try a Dynomax race bullet muffler from Racer Parts Wholesale. They're cheap, durable, and loud - I run 2-3 at the same time on my racecar (with 2.5" pipe and MSDS header), and it's VERY loud. One of these behind a stock exh. manifold would probably be plenty of loud for a street car!
