Well I got a wild hair, and decided to fix my horn. I traced all the wires. Well after a long while, I found the problem. There is a brown/blue wire that was snipped just before it goes into the steering column. Well i searched for awhile and found the other half of the brown/blue wire. Luckly it is getting power. So i touched the two brown/blue wires together and had a second pair of hands press the horn for me. Nothing. So i'm guessing i'm gonna have to take the steering wheel apart...but do any of you guys have any idea what could go wrong in the steering column/steering wheel? Thanks! _________________ =====>Alex<=====

If you're wiring is anything like mine then it is probably brittle and cracked in many places (oh boy i can't wait for when it comes time to rewire it LOL!), now, i don't really have a wiring diagram for the car. But can you see the wires that return to the horn? Are you able to cheat the horn and maybe hook up a 12v connection up to it to even test the horn by itself and bypass the entire wiring? I don't think there is too much wiring going to that steering column when i looked.
I'll be looking at my car a bit tonight now that i have some time to work on it, i'll dig into the steering column and see if i can find anything that i might be able to spark an idea up on. You could always rewire it, especially if the wiring is old and crappy.
But all in all... the things to check would be power to the connection (you verified that), make sure the switch works (horn button on the wheel), and the return wire completing the circuit. What color is the wire completing the circuit? Is there a fuse for it? Have you checked the fuse if there is one? _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

If you touch the brown and blue wire to earth (a good earth) it should energise the horn relay.. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

(also, I checked, and the brown/blue wire is only getting voltage at ignition, and not at off, so that could also be a problem) _________________ =====>Alex<=====

Horn doesnt work with ign off anyway.
Sounds fine to me.
Earth = Ground.
Blue/brown wire is the wire from the horn relay which is shorted to earth (steering column) via the horn push.
Sometimes the steering column is not grounded very well and prevents the horn working. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Completely unrelated, but this reminds me of a horn story with my old Oldsmobile Delta 88. One night in December/January My car is parked out on the street & my horn just starts blaring full force. Like a train coming down the tracks. At 2 in the morning my girlfriend wakes me from my slumber, I put clothes on & go outside to deal with the problem. I have to get dressed (It's cold outside) all the while the horn is going full force.
I go outside to the honking car wondering what the problem is & people are looking out their front doors to see the spectacle. I end up popping the hood and disconnecting the horn itself. When I popped the hood, it went from hooooooonk to HOOOOOOONK - as loud as you can imagine with an 80's american land yacht. Words cannot portray the intensity of the noise coming from the horn.
It ended up being a closed connection in the steering column from the metal constricting so much from the extreme cold that night.. _________________ 1981 Porsche 924
