ok i got an idea
it wont be cheep but it would be pretty cool
hows this for a swap
take all the drive train from a newer corvette and put it in a 924
if you look at it is nearly the same set up
the corvette has the engine in the front just like the 924
the corvette has a torque tube just like the 924
the transmission of a corvette is in the back just like a 924
the corvette has irs just like a 924
true the corvette has a transmission and then an axle and it would be longer than the porsche's transaxle but if you are goin to do the swap it would require modifications to both the car and drivetrain componets anyway but it would be worth it
i think what im going to do to my 924 is put a 5.3 truck engine followed by 5 or 6 speed manual and then put the irs out of an 80s corvette into it
this is just a couple of ideas _________________ The Ginger

Sounds cool, but wouldn't it all be way too big to fit in a 924? _________________ 77 NA 924

The Vette tranxaxle is huge and you would need to cut the rear torsion bar tube and the rear floor to fit it in. That would mean a new rear suspension too.
So you would need to build some kind of tubing frame in back to mount a new suspension and rebuild the floor. You would also need to shorten the Vette TT. This would be a huge project requiring some very good design skills and the equipment necessary to do it. It would be big job and very expensive. (C6 Vette parts are not cheap)
I'm sure it could be done with enough money. |

no dout it would be expensive im just saying it would be sweet
the tranny is a t56 and i bet it is smaller than the transaxle in the porsche
the tranny/axle combo is bigger than the porsche transaxle yes
it would be worth the money if you had it
but me im broke so its just an idea _________________ The Ginger

while we are conjuring up unrealistic cool ideas, I'd prefer to put a Subaru Impreza STI Turbo engine and drive train in my 924. That's a powerful little engine, you get all wheel drive, and the boxer engine has a low center of gravity so it won't hurt the handling a bit - if not improve it.
(similar wheelbase/width and track) _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)

To be honest, the T56 isn't that strong or worthwhile compared to a good Audi box.
The Audi box survives with Audi's V8s and twin-turbo V6, so the Corvette engine should work just fine.
If you're going to go through all of that work, why not just build a tube frame chassis with a Corvette as the basis with a Porsche body draped over the top of it.
The problem with the STi drivetrain is while the COG is low, it hangs way over the front wheels. So the problem is like the 911 but in reverse. Audi Quattro's have the same problem. The amount of work needed to work around that is difficult and not worth it if you're swapping, IMHO. _________________ Stefan

yes while we are in dream land lets do this
screw the sti
true the sti is a fast powerful car but i got a better idea
the ultimate 924 would be
the drive train of the new nissan gtr with a toyota 2jz motor
the 2jz is an awesome motor capable of over a 1000 horse
and the new gtr drive train is some of the most advanced ive heard about
in dream land this would be awesome
but in the real world it would be something like at least $250,000 _________________ The Ginger

Here's another example of fitting a Corvette V8 to a Euro car, a 7 liter one at that!
