i know the 931 is not a drag strip car and i don't intend mine to be. mine will be an auto-x-er. but some of my friends who are helping me with my project/restoration are interested to know what kind of quarter mile times this thing is capable of. i don't trust those old car magazine numbers, since i feel this car is capable of much quicker times. let me know what you guys have been able run. please include any major mods with your times. also, from experience, what rpm produces the best launch? thanks.

The best launch is achieved by that speed which will 'just' set your tires spinning. I find at 5500 RPM I can drop the clutch and get some wheel spin from my 924. Then, a few weeks later, when I'm replacing the newly scorched clutch, and contemplating the abuse I've dealt to my half shafts, I appreciate the virtue of patience at stop lights and the pleasure of driving a 924 on twisty roads.

Well, my 924 IT car is capable of sub-2-minute laps around Mid-Ohio, but that's nothing to brag about. No power yet.

Maybe I'll get a chance to take the turbo there later this year, if time and money permit...

The 1/4 mile times can very a lot depending on just the rev limiter and tranny in the car. Check out the numbers for the 80 and 81 and 82. As for the car not being a drag car and a good Auto-Xer, I find the manual steeering is TERRIBLE on the tight slow turns, but not a problem when driving above 40 (track speeds), so it may be a better dragger than an x-er

Larso's got it. Manual steering, turbo lag, no low end torque. All are big negatives for an autocross car. Since you will be in the same class as early 944s, which have none of these problems, they will kill you at an autocross.
