Well, unless you've converted to electronic fuel injection, you can't plug your computer into your car.
So, first, you'd have to convert to a electronic fuel system that supports e85. Or figure out a way to run it on CIS (could be possible, but you need 30 percent more flow out of the CIS system to run e85, so, may not be very easy, and you wouldn't be able to switch back and forth)

Theres a guy here in sweden that converted his 924 some years ago. If i remember correctly he adjusted the CIS to go much richer and it was enough. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Then its easy, over here we have a guy that make ecu uppgrades for e85, but you must also get new injectors. This is done for several 944s. I dont know if anyone over there does the same thing. does the us 924s differ from the row ? _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

You should probably make sure you're not running a plastic gas tank, and you should also replace any of the old rubber and neoprene gas lines with modern fuel lines designed to accommodate ethanol.
In addition, as others have noted above, my reading on the topic indicates that you will need injectors that can accommodate up to 40% more duty cycle, you will need to make sure your fuel pump can handle the add'l required fuel flow, and the ECU will need to be modified to deliver the correct air fuel ratio (AFR) as well as correctly adjusted ignition timing.
Be aware, if you head down this path, the proper way to implement this is with an E85 sensor that can detect the amount of ethanol, and communicate with the ECU to adjust the timing and AFR on the fly. I don't believe the stock 924S/944 ECU has this capability. There are ways to manually get around this, but you will have to really stay on top of the mix of ethanol you are running at all times. Also, there are some interesting threads over on Pelican related to E85. Since your car is a 924S with the 2.5L engine, you might want to do some searching over there as well. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
