Regrinding the cam lobe can change all aspects of the cam including lift. If the base of the lobe is ground down then the valve has to travel up further before it meets the lobe, hence creating more lift. Obviously the valve can not move beyond the seat so lash caps are used to make up the difference.

I think if you built a engine with such a radical cam to make noticeably more lifter wear, the last thing you would be worried about is lifter wear! _________________ Over the top of skyline, total brake failure.... hit the wall at over 200 kp/h at the dipper, so anyone who has to brake for the esses is a pussy.
