Ok gohim. I know this is your hot topic. In the following link is a car that the owner claims to have made better by removing the water pump, and replacing it with an aluminum plate. I gotta hear some comments on this.

Don't see why it won't work...

People put those pumps on Supras all the time, which come stock with a pump similar to the 944...I think the advantage here is that hot coolant can be circulated through the cooling system while the engine is turned off. And the electric pump may be capable of higher flow rates than the stock pump...

uhh,

No thanks.

While it may work, there are too many unanswered questions for me to risk my engines.

Like, how does changing the number of teeth affect camshaft timing, and belt life? Obviously, if some rollers or pulleys were removed, and the belt line was changed belt life is going to be affected as the belt is shorter, and will rotate more times per minute.

I sincerely doubt if you are going to increase belt life to 240K miles as the Seller claims.

I like how they say the "head first" cooling system is "like the LT1". . .it is also like the GTR Paul & I photographed at the Porsche Parade. The stock pump was still there, but no longer belt driven. An external pump (that looked a bit like a turbo) ran the cooling system instead, and pumped cool water from the rad into the rear of the head, and out the front of the motor. Pretty interesting.

Some of the Elise models have electric bypass pumps fitted that keep the water flowing (As they can lunch Head Gaskets ) but they are in addition to the engine pump and quite small, they just stop the water from standing in the head and overheating.

Do you guys get that much trouble with overheating? Is it that big a problem?

hey mates,

all new bmw models are delivered with a non-belt-driven waterpump. They work electric and are only switch on when needed.(Thermostat)
It reduces fuel consumption and is called "efficient- dynamics".Also with the package comes a start-stop function, engine off while just rolling and after a complet stop just press the clutch and engine starts.

crazy these germans....... but gas is getting expensive!

I found this picture on a Supra forum I frequent...This guy uses this electric water pump inline with the lower radiator hose, on his 550HP big turbo inline-6, and reports far better cooling than the stock pump...Thought it was pretty interesting.

The thought behind using one is that you can get better cooler at lower speeds, for instance when you are in traffic in the summer with the AC on...and you get better flow at higher engine speeds, where the stock pump tends to cavitate.
