I've noticed my 77.7 NA has not had the pep it had this summer. The engine is a fresh rebuild and it ran great all summer. It's not too terribly sluggish now, just not like it was. So, I looked around, no vac leaks to be found. Got my timing light (timing was off a little) and reset the timing and that seemed to get it. Right now, it's at 4 degrees after TDC. My question is... Is is ok that my idle is at 1050rpm? I read somewhere here that the idle adjusting screw is supposed to be set at 2.5 full turns back from tight as a default setting. That being the case, how much sensitivity should that screw have? When I turn mine, the idle doesn't really change much at all. The car does have much better response now that I reset the timing but this idle speed isn't quite right yet. I also have noticed a little tapping from the valves, I'm guessing they need to be checked for proper gap? I haven't checked the valves at all since I put the rebuilt motor in, what's the proper/easy way of doing this? Thanks for the help! _________________ Michael

Sort the valves and reset the idle, the 2.5 turns is a generic ball park setting. Turn it in until you get 900 +/- 50 RPM hot idle. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

Ok, well I think I'm in a lot deeper than I wanted to be.... I took off the valve cover to re-gap my valves and... holy $hit Batman.. my cam oiling tube was broke and a piece of it was just laying in the head! That explains alot with my wierd oil pressure. So... does anyone know where I can pick up another one? I checked at Pelican Parts and they said they discontinued that part. As it sits now, the oil is just spitting out of the elbow and now even flowing thru the tube (since it is broken). In the meantime what other things should I look out for while I have the valve cover off? Hopefully it didn't screw anything up driving it this summer that way... _________________ Michael

You'll probably need to find a used one.
How's the camshaft lobes look on cylinders 3 and 4? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

actually they look pretty good, no marks or anything on them. I thought friction would have discolored them a bit but they look decent. _________________ Michael
