Well Guy's,
After much thought and research, i think i have managed to fabricate a low pressure draw through system for the front mounted 951 IC. Having looked at the air pressure diagrams posted here previously, and doing a bit of parallel research, i think i've hit the jackpot. I had this set up for the Castle Combe race, which i won, despite very nasty weather and being totally outgunned in the HP department. It seems to have made the mid range much fatter, so the engine is not such a hand grenade in it's power delivery. I have fitted a pre IC temp sensor as well as having a post IC sensor, so i will be able to give some real world figures as to temperature drops across the IC in real world conditions.
All i can say is that at the moment, going by the seat of the pants power meter, it seems to work a charm.
Enjoy,
Steve

Very nicely done! They make very similar hoods for the evo and rx7s, so I would be willing to bet that you definately helped the cause. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Cheers Flosho,
next race is on the 21st, so i will be able to get some meaningful data. Will be interesting i guess. Might rig up a big fan and light some cigarettes and do some ad hoc wind tunnel research

Bad Lizard, VERY BAD Lizard!!
well, if you ever find yourself this side of the pond, and are at a loose end, come and checkout Simsport and myself campaigning the old girls. Actually, there are quite a few 24's in the Championship, in all classes, although i seem to be the only mug who thought it would be a great idea to pitch a 24T against the big boys. Still, I've always loved an unfair fight
However, once i get some meaningful data, this might be a mod worth looking in to, even for a road car. Get a spare hood and give it a whiz.

Looks amazing, what a novel idea on a 924 turbo, I don't even think I've ever seen that on a 951, nevermind a 931. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Is all the intake air from the 4 plastic vents? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Yes, but the IC has a scoop/shroud around the front of it to funnel the air into it. as per Mr. Bell's book, apparently an IC only needs an air inlet 1/4 the size of it's frontal area.
The scoop extends forward to about 2 inches from the 4 nose scoops, so the air is fairly forced through.

I've thought about using a set up similar to this after seeing nicks car with the intercooler in front of the engine. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Beauty!! I even like the way it looks from the outside. Must be a pretty nice low pressure area right there. Can't wait to see the temp readings.

You really do some expert fab work! The only trouble with trying to duplicate it for a road car is messing with the hood latch / pins. Otherwise, it looks like an excellent advantage!
I'll check into adding an extra intake air temp sensor on my turbo outlet to see how mine compares. I think I typically run around 40F over ambient temp or so.
You're getting to the point where I can't even think of any tricks to add to your ride! Truly a beauty! _________________ 1980 931S
