I have had a new gas hose purchased from the Porsche dealer that seems to degraded in a sort of unusual way. It is the hose that goes from the in-tank pump to the external fuel pump in an "S" shape. The bends seem to have a few "bubbles" so I decided to take it off to look at. It appears that the outer part of the hose and inner part of the hose have come apart from each other, probably where the braided reinforcement braided part is in the middle. Has anyone else ever had this happen to their hose? How should I prevent this? I would like to know before I replace it only to have it happen again. _________________ Rob

No need to bother with an OE Porsche "S" hose replacement - I've had a regular piece of 1/2" fuel hose in place and working fine for a few years now with the in-tank + main pump setup. I ran the hose from the tank outlet in a clockwise direction (clockwise as viewed from below) around the tank then forward to the main fuel pump and supported with a few ratchet wire ties. It's a longer route than the S hose takes, but necessary to avoid kinking.
In your situation I'd see about having the dealer replace that hose since it was apparently defective. They should find it interesting at least that they're being supplied with some dangerous junk. -Or since a replacement from them will likely come from the same batch, get a refund and replace it with regular fuel hose. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. When I talked to the Porsche dealer, they said since it is over the 1 year (bought in 9-05) warranty period, there is pretty much nothing they or I can do. The service manager can look at it to see if it is hooked up wrong or if the "defect" is due to the orientation. I declined that since the car isn't running well now and won't make it that far. My wife said since it is only $16 or so, just get a new one, which is what I'll do. I'll get the regular hose and route it like you, Smoothie. Do you happen to know how long the hose was? I may talk to the dealer again after replacing it so they know "they're being supplied with some dangerous junk", but they didn't seem to care too much. _________________ Rob
