Well I stumbled accross this car on ebay a week ago and since it was close, I managed to buy it for a about half what it would cost to build. Its a 1978 944, body is rust free and perfect. The car was completely built from scratch from ground up. Nothing porsche left in the drivetrain. It has a SBC 350 w/ 305 heads, fresh rebuild with performance parts, built TH350 Tranny, ford 8" rear end, ladder bar suspension, full frame was built under the car, and so much more.

I'm always amazed that apart from the height the small block Chebby looks so good in there.

Looks very well done. A lot of time went into that conversion. Mind if I ask what you had to pay?

I'd like to see a better picture under the dash of any firewall mods that had to be done for the tranny install.

I baught the car for $3500 the way it sits, the previous owner only had 10 miles on it before he moved to the next project.

I cannot see too much, but the firewall does not look like its modded too much, I know the mount for the gas petal was relocated over 2 inches so a buldge in the tunnel could be made.

A lot of work went into the car, it now has a full frame under it and when driving it reminds me of a 70's camaro or firebird. Drives nothing like a porsche anymore, more like a american muscle car now.

We have a full list of things that are going to be done to the car over the next year. I have a 944 turbo that had the enigne and interior burned out, so we are going use the 944 wide body parts to make the 924 a clone of a 944 turbo. Also a roll cage will be installed, race seats, and a upgrade brake system.

Wow! $3500, you stole the sucker!!

If it handles like an old camaro you're doing quite well I would think. This is the way I would expect it to handle if the framing were done well. Even the old American iron can be made to handle fairly well with just the addition of heavy roll bars. I would think you could have great fun at autocrosses with this setup!
