I have an 87 924S. I get the oil warning light flashing yet I have plenty of oil pressure (4 bars). It happens about every other time I start up the car. I'm assuming a bad sender. Any other ideas?

Check your wiring first... I believe there's a procedure on Clark's Garage...

There is an oil level sensor installed and active on some 924S cars (depends on the production date of your car).

If your car has the light, it will flash to tell you that it is working when you first turn the ignition key on (kinda like the way that most of the dashboard warning light come on when you first turn the key through the engine/ignition on position of the ignition lock, and the engine is not running, before the key is turned to the start position to operate the starter and get the engine running.

You could try looking down on the side of your engine (I think the right side of the oil pan behind the power steering pump) to see if you have the oil level sender. If you do have the oil level sender, you should inspect the wiring to make sure that it has not rubbed to bare wire somewhere (causing an intermittent short) which could be causing the blinking warning light). Or could also try raising the oil level by 1/2 quart to see if the blinking light is eliminated.

I might be mistaken but I have an 87 924S and I don't think my oil light comes on when I just turn the ignition to "ON" should it be?

If the light does not turn on when the ignition is on and the engine is not running, then the light is not working. The bulb is probably burnt out. Otherwise, what purpose does the oil pressure warning light have?

You are my hero gohim. I didn't quite add 1/2 a quart and the light went out. Weird, I read the owners manual and it says nothing about a low oil quantity warning. Oil level looked great on the dipstick too.

The light's purpose is to identify the level of the oil. The light will flash when your level is to low or close to being to low. I parked on a hill once and way worrying cause the same problem happened to me. To reset the light you have to turn the car off for at least 90 seconds, then start it again. The sensor is VERY accurate.

Same behavior also if sender is disconnected or sender wire is broken.
