Hi!
On thursday finally after two days hard work I started the 'ole N/A with a turbo. Turbo itself is IHI from Hyundai Terracan 2.9 and has less than 2000km on it (car got crashed).
Intercooler is from Audi 200 and needed the plastic pipes to be modified to right direction.

Car runs incredibly well: on 2000rpm 3rd gear display reads 100kPa (1 bar absolute) and hits full boost 0.8 Bar over absolute in 3000rpm. And what's most important: it stays that way to the redline!

Pay no attention to the hose on the throttle body, because it's kinda band-aid: I left the stock rubber at first but it virtually blew in pieces after it saw 0.7 bar. Yesterday I made intake longer. All intake tubing is stainless and TIG welded. All of the exaust is also stainless 3" and TIG welded except crossover pipe and downpipe. Crossover pipe is made from first piece of stock exaust: I cut it shorter and welded pointing towards the engine.
Of course fitting two 63mm pipes in that tight space was a challenge, but not that bad.

Have to do a lot of cleaning under the hood but hell, car runs like it should be!
Fitted the Cup1 wheels from my 931 on N/A because spring suddenly came and rubber on 18" twists is a bit worn (I ordered new tires but the won't arrive until 2 weeks).

IC is little bit tilted but it just couldn't be fit more straight in that location

I bought 951 calipers also, got them sandblasted with a special very fine sand and then painted.

WOW that's quite a conversion, what's it running for fuel injection and ignition? 15 psi on a NA, it must have over 200 hp....

Nice!! Great job on the plumbing.

Cool to see my prototype rail get some further use halfway around the world! Keep us posted on this.

Something tells me Min will have a question (or ten ) for you.

It has VEMS both for ignition and fuel. I had COP's initially but my friend bothered me so much that I sold them to him to install those on his '76 924

No, not 15 psi, to be correct, LCD reads exactly 176 kPa, it's 0.76 Bar.

But it runs damn good and I plan to got to dyno to tune the best spark and fuel curve out of this oldie
It's still original factory engine, no rebuilds. But it definitely could use some gasket changing (oil pan, cam and front crank seals). I had to use 931 oil catch tank because on that pressure I get some blow-by, nothing dramatic.

Wait, I thought you couldn't turbo an NA? I thought you had to buy a 931?

Nice work!

Nice work!

Thanks guys!

And I guess buying 931 is one way (I did it also) but 924 can and will make decent power in forced induction form. Hehee, I made a rolling start run against my friends stock 220hp 951 and guess who won?
Of course, good old 924!

Its very nicely done I think. But could I ask a couple questions? ... have you had any problems with heat on that side of the engine bay? Or having that much heat close to your brake master cylinder? I was thinking of doing something similiar to this. But I'd love to get your feedback on it.

No heat problems so far under hood. That's why you see thermal tape around all the exaust pipes: it lets gases go faster thru the turbo and in the same time keeps underhood temps in reasonable levels. I basically can touch the pipe with a hand after run, it helps so much.

I tried to route the pipes not too close to anything sensitive. I think I can take some pics under the car also to get some idea.

But I definitely noticed some more strain on the cooling system as IC blocks some air to the rad and added combustion temperatures cause more heat on the coolant.

Success and longetivity of turbocharging all comes down to managing the additional heat. That's what C. Bell said in his immortal book

Awesome, I may use this method on one of my cars then.

Did you do any upgrades to the cooling system at all? bigger fans?

No upgrades on cooling system besides filling it up to the max mark (it was 2 liters short before ) and crimping new connectors to the wires that fit to the rad vent thermo relay. They were little loose so rad vent wouldn't kick in sometimes. No matter without turbo, but once installation was complete, missing rad vent reminded itself at the first stoplight

Awesome job!! I love it. I am doing something almost identical to this. I have a few questions. 1) How are you draining your oil from the turbo? 2) Is your turbo water cooled? 3) Can you post pics or tell of how you ran your exhaust? I'd just like to compare.

Rasta, as I mentioned before, it's a wrong side for turbo I did it only because I didn't feel like fabricating new exaust manifold.

I drain oil directly to the oil pan: I drilled a hole under turbo and tapped it. Changed oil after that immediately of course.

Turbo is watercooled but I didn't route the piping. Turbo works without it perfectly, just let it cool down. Maybe I'll make the water cooling also, because I plan to sell the kit after some time before new engine goes in.

I'll take some pics of the exaust in couple of days.
