I need to replace one of the side mirrors and I have the door panel off. How is the mirror attached? _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 N/A |

From the pic here, it looks like two self tapping screws (#4).
Good luck,

Rotate the mirror fwd and remove allen screw 19.
The rest is easy. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

...unless the barrel-shaped 'nut' on the inside of the door skin is rusted solid to bolt 19; then you're screwed. I speak from experience!
(PS it might be different for non-electric mirrors.) _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

I rotated until the screw snapped. Then I pulled out the power mirrror, associated wiring and was glad to be rid of it. Welded up the holes, filled the gouges in the paint... Have yet to get around to drilling the holes for my new mirror. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

I had to once use a drill and I managed to drill out the head
of said screw 19 beacuse the allen head pattern rounded
out. the allen wrench wouldnt grab anymore. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Well..., in my case, I abandonned the idea of removing the mirrors!
Your picture shows the manual adjustment mirrors, which are probably the ones on 79Porsche's ...er... '79 Porsche.
The power mirrors are slightly different and a real PITA (as the other posters have testified) once water runs down the Allen-head bolt and rusts the 'nut' (which I don't think is represented in the illustation). _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)
