Ya know, it just struck me today...we all like to defend our cars as incredibly fun to drive...and yet, no where on this board do we have a place dedicated to cool roads to drive on, neat destinations, or anything remotely related to non-track-related driving.

So, Peter et al, I'm proposing we add a "Cool Drive" forum, a section kind of like Links that stands all on its own. I'd also like to suggest that a cool drive post include the following kinds of information:

1. Name: get creative
2. Description: in a paragraph or so, tell us about the drive
3. Landmarks: anything of scenic, historical, cultural, or culinary interest
4. Directions: self explanatory
5. Photos: embedded pix, or links to pix
6. Location: text description, or better yet, GPS coords or google map link

It would also be cool to put a poll on each drive using some sort of rating scale where other members could rate the drive.

I'll get to work on putting a real live example together and will post back here shortly. In the meantime, if you're looking for cool places to drive, here's a good starting point:

Swell idea, I already have one in mind.

Is there a way to make it private, though, so that only registered members can access it, and it doesn't come up in Google?

Sorry, its the lawyer in me.

Upper Colorado National Scenic Byway
Description
Highway 128 in East-Central Utah follows the undulating Colorado River through the slick rock petrified dunes, canyons, mesas, and buttes that characterize Utah canyon country. The road passes directly through the so-called Professor Valley, where John Wayne and other western film stars shot many of their movies. Scenery and picnic pullouts abound along more than 30 miles of twisting, rolling two-lane blacktop.

Points of Interest
The Sorrel River Ranch provides pricey but comfortable accomodations, along with a couple of other operating ranches along the river.
The town of Moab is the largest municipality in the area, and caters to the mountain biking, rock climbing, OHV adventure types. Consequently, you can actually get a beer in Moab without requiring a membership card (unlike most other areas in Utah). I recommend the Moab Brewery, featuring Dead Horse Amber Ale.
Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park are both within an hour drive of Moab, and not to be missed.

Directions
Highway 128 is a couple of miles directly north of the town of Moab off of US191. It meanders in a north-easterly direction, following the Colorado River, and ends at US6/US50 near Cisco, UT. Alternatively, from Grand Junction, travel west about an hour along I-70, take exit 212 and follow US6/US50 to 128.

Don't know about the private piece...Peter would have to answer that one...although it seems reasonable.

As for the Google part of the question, there's information here about excluding bots from being able to index the site (and consequently include it in their search results). Although I'm not entirely sure why that would be a concern for this part of the site vs. any other...

very nice ideea.

This section of the forum should be VERY clean and quiet(no posts allowed, just the owner of the thread), very well organised.

Hmmm...I was kinda going for the idea of giving people the opportunity to rate the drive...each post in this particular forum by default would be set up as a poll, with a standard voting scheme like:

-Worth driving again
-Fun, but prob'ly wouldn't do it twice
-Ho hum
-BO-RING!

In any event, I'd go with the consensus view on this last point...

Hey Min, that one you list, it is known as the tail of the dragon,

the 928 guys do it once a year, I believe they call it tail of the dragon. Also a HUGE destination for motorcyclists, so big that they have a tree at one point on it and if you crash you have to take a piece of your fairings and attach it to the tree.

Ah yes, the Tree of Shame. This was in R&T not long ago.

Wow, that's ugly.
I'll bet nearby trees don't release pollen when the wind blows toward that one.
