No.

To protect the engine and to direct air flow.

You really need to learn to search before asking questions, johnrizo. We don't mind answering but many of these question have been covered ad nauseum... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Pull the tray off and leave it off until you get the car running better. Otherwise, you'll be pulling off every day or so. Khal is correct; it's there for a reason. However, you'll get very frustrated quickly with the repair work so just leave it off for now.
Might also want to put your year and model in your sig line so everyone knows what you've got each time you post a question. Makes it easier for everyone and you get the right advice for your model year.
Welcome to the board and good luck with the new purchase. There is alot of knowledge on the board. Be sure you have a Haynes or some kind of repair manual. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

The belly pan also help divert air back instead of up through the engine bay. Air under being forced upwards cause handling issues. _________________ Dal Glassinger |

I leave it in place for one reason, i am driving without timing belt cover
( to keep an eye on it) and that pan prevents against debris flying into my timing belt.
