A great way to spend Super Bowl weekend since I'm not a big fooseball fan

Not sure what the deal with mine is, but I had to move the mounting holes to get the intake to line up even close to properly. Anyone else have a similar problem?

If you look at the photos, you'll see the problem when I lay the intake gasket on the intake in the out of the box configuration. Quite a bit of overlap and offset there.

A fair amount of work to get it to this point and of course I burned through near a mounting hole from being too frisky with the grinder, so I need to fix that still. The aluminum filler rod and a propane torch seems to work pretty well, but it might have to JB Welded and then painted.

However, this is something that shouldn't be overlooked if you don't want to lose power in the process of moving to side draft carbs/throttle bodies.

I don't have a flow bench (yet) so I'm not doing much work except to clean up the path a bit and gasket match it all. In fact the lower edge of the intake port of the cylinder head has a horrendous hump and a nasty ledge that I'm not sure how to correct and have the intake match it properly. Some noodling will be needed and it may not get fixed until I work on my next cylinder head and use a flow bench to verify the results and help keep it all relatively even.

I can't tell from the photos...is that an NA or 931 head? The geometry of the intake mounting and ports is slightly different between the two...pretty sure the carb manifolds were all designed for the NA heads, so perhaps that's what you're running into?

Nope, stock 79 NA head (notice the lack of spark plug holes on the intake side)

The issue was simply that they drilled the mounting holes wrong at the factory. Problem is mostly solved now, just figured the folks moving to carbs would like a heads up on a potential issue to watch out for with some of the intakes on the market.
