Hello all,

I have a funky question. I am want to know if it is possible to only convert the rear breaks to the five lug setup, but leave the front 4 lug disks on....

....the reason I ask is that I already have great custom wheels for the 4 bolt pattern and I want to put the rear disk brakes on, then use an adapter (or re-drill the disks) to get back to the 4 lug bolt pattern (and also space the wheels out about 1.5 inches at the same time).

I'm sure its possible, but the brake biasing might be way off, with big brakes in the back and small standard brakes up front...

I don't think it's a good idea. The rear brakes on the 5-bolt setup use the same size pad on a larger rotor as the standard 4-bolt front brakes on the 924. If you did this setup, you'd probably lock the rear brakes very easily. You would have to split the brakes front-rear instead of diagonally, then put a bias valve.

I highly highly highly highly recommend the full 5-bolt setup. The front rotors are considerably larger (approx. 1"), vented, and have a much larger pad. The rear rotors are large, also vented, and as I said before have pads as large as the standard front 924 pads. The increase in braking power is considerable, and resistance to fade is much improved.

Someone else will know the details on this but you can put VW rear discs on your car... It's a beetle??? conversion kit or something... as said... someone else will know more about this...

P.S. Forget the 4 lugs.... you will have so many options with 5 lugs you will never go back

you also won't be able to adapt a 5 lug porsche bolt pattern to the 4 lug 924 pattern. the hole spacing just doesn't allow it. if you draw it out on a piece of paper you'll see what i mean.

like Jon says, there are many more wheel possibilities with the standard 5 bolt pattern.

although i'll be in for about $1k after the conversion is done with new tires and wheels and new brake wear items. but i'll get to sell my rare and ultra-desireable used 4 bolt parts to you guys for big $$
