Thanks in advance. |

Front left wheel (when sitting in the car) is where it attaches to. Feeds through a hole in the fire wall behind the speedo. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

| Is there a trick to routing the thing? I replaced my cable about 18 months ago and the gauge still bounces - moving the cable around does affect it but I can't solve the problem. Maybe the cable should be laid out from the bag it comes in for a day so it's straighter? |

the bouncing speedo syndrome can also be as a result of worn or broken gears in the speedo. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

The cable is actually a long spring and if dragging in the housing it can cause a bounce on the speedometer. I have also seen bent/pinched housings cause a bounce. Might try relubing first.

If your not careful in preplacing like make sure you
seal the hub end up real good & also try to use the same
route as the original & lastly dont over bend the cable
Ive had 2 cables break in 5 yrs for these reasons.
Never had a bouncer though. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

A little dab of silicone gasket maker or whatever will do it - the blue stuff or the black, the bronze even.. Mine originally had some orange or red colored silicone on it.
For routing, if the original cable is still in place, cut the old cable at its' dashboard end about an inch or so from the end (just to remove the thicker parts, screw-on attachment, etc.). Securely tape that in-line to the wheel end of the new cable, then slowly pull the new cable into the engine compartment obviously by pulling the old cable in that direction. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You um really have to have patience and squeeze your hand in tight
places to get the cable attached to the quage. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Hey, my speedo is bouncing a fair bit, pulled the cable off the speedo and took it for a quick drive, the cable seems to have a bent at the end making the end of the cable come out at a strange direction, any idea's if ths would cause speedo bounce? _________________ '78 924

Yes, a bend in the cable will cause it to bounce. It could be the inner cable is dragging on the outer cable housing.
Is your speedo in the center of the bezel like the stock placement? I tried moving mine but didn't have the success that other have.
Did your year come with an oxygen sensor? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Mine doesn't have a o2 sensor. got some oil and poured it down the cable, and this doesn't seem to have helped, I'm taking the car to licensing today, so will see of they pick it. Yep, my speedo is in the centre, what is the advantage of moving it? Are the speedo's interchangeable with anything? _________________ '78 924

Some with the early dash's have moved the speedo so the tach is in the center ("like a real porsche"- not my words), I did this and it started to bounce so I moved it back. When I was an auto tech for Dodge we saw the speedos bounce on the shadows alot, we took the cable off the speedo- pulled out the inner cable and greased it up with get this "speedo cable lube", its just a light weight grease but not oil and it worked great.
Hope this helps _________________ Rick

911 owners claim that real Porsches have the tach in the middle. (They seem to forget about 914s) _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

in RHD cars the speedo cable is not long enough to make the tach/speedo swap. _________________ 1978 924 N/A
