I'm getting ready to order my headers and I need to know if I should have them ceramic coated or wrap them. I think ceramic coating is better, but I wasn't too sure about cracking. I won't be driving this car too hard anyway. And in case you're wondering, I was going to order them from MSDS. Thanks folks.

Definitely ceramic coat - wrap will promote rust and rotting out. Ceramic can crack, but it's still far better. That's what I've got, on my MSDS header, and love it!

if you go for ceramic coating I recently read that if you want it to last the only colour to get is black.

Apparently the additives in the coloured stuff causes it to expand and contract at a different rate and it eventually flakes off. The "chrome" look stuff is supposed to be the worst.

This was from a guy who owns a business specialising in metal coatings so it's probably good advice.

OK, I will use black ceramic coating. Now, my next question, I will be running steel braided oil lines to a remote filter mount and cooler, will I need to shield these around the header area or will the ceramic coating provide enough protection for these lines? Thanks Folks.

I would say shield them it will only take you a few minutes to do it and better safe than sorry.

Yes, an extra wrap of aluminized insulation would be highly adviseable.

Depends on the size hose used, but I'd suggest using a sheet of wrap material secured with hose clamps; easier to remove for service.

I here that a header causes wires to burn up if there not insulated &if you drive on the highway for a hour or two then look under the hood theres a cherry glow from the header
best to wrap that header or ceramic coat it.

Depending on how you drive, the headers glow all the time

I strongly advise the ceramic, especially if it is a new header. It'll prolong the life of the header, and other things under your hood. Your engine will also run a bit cooler, and you get a little power as well.
