Just an FYI, I finally tried out the rope trick last night - boy does it ever work well! So much better and safer than using screwdrivers as prybars, praying you don't puncture your brand-new window seal!
To recap (I think I saw this on rennlist somewhere?), to reinstall the window, you wrap a rope about 3/8" in diameter all the way around the window rubber (after reinstalling that rubber seal on the window glass), placing the rope in the channel that grips the metal window frame. Overlap the rope ends at the bottom of the window, as this is where you want to start working the seal in.
Then all you have to do is place the back lower corner of the window into the frame. Slowly peel out the rope, using the rope to lift the lip over the metal frame edge, then pushing the rubber back down securely on the lip all the way. I found I had to work the seal all the way down onto the frame a number of times as I went, as it continued to work its way off until I was completely done.
Now I have no fear about removing those windows to replace speakers, etc! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Now we just need to know how to get it out first, and then this post can be moved to the "How-to" section. |

Oh, hell, that's the easy part; it's only held in by the seal, so all you have to do is go inside the car and pry the seal clear of the flange. Just be sure to catch it as it pops out! _________________ Vaughan Scott

sounds like it didn't take too long - too bad you didn't video tape it. _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)

back in the olden days when I crewed on a rally car we always kept a spare windscreen in one of the trucks roped-up ready to go. With two guys outside the car and one in we could swap a screen in under a minute. Brutal but fast. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)
