I have a '85 924 but do not know how to open / take out the sunroof. I have read in other places about pressing a sunroof button to unlock the rear. The markings on most of the switches and buttons have rubbed off and i do not know which button this would be, i know it lifts out from the rear and then you have to undo the catches at the front but that is about it. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Many Thanks |

On my '87 924S, it's front/left of the shifter, a rocker switch on the center panel. IIRC, it's back to close, forward to open? Key must be (ignition) on to open or close, and switch must be held down (not a one-touch like modern sunroofs). To remove the roof, the key is inserted and turned to the first notch (not all the way to run - IIRC), then you hold to the close position. The lift arms will retract, and the rear of the roof can be lifted off. Then the front catches are undone, and the roof removed. _________________ Vaughan Scott

| thanks for letting me know. I now have another issue, when i hold the button down, nothing happens, i do not know if the issue is likely to be with a fuse or relay or something else, i don't even get the sound of the roof trying to open. Any thoughts. Also, rear wiper no longer working, not too sure how to fix this, everything appears to be ok apart from possibly the reley but not too sure how to check if they realy is ok. |

I've sorted out the rear wiper now, just working on the sunroof. I'm going to start by raising it manually to get is out and then sort out the headlining and look at the motor. Any idea's on how easy gears/ motors are to get hold of. may new to replace parts or the whole thing? |

I had to replace the gears in my sunroof, they were both trashed. Actually a pretty easy job. You need to check out Clark's Garage for info on how to check/replace etc.:
http://www.clarks-garage.com/
Look under Garage Shop Manual, it's all under Sunroof, shouldn't be hard to find. Plenty of other good info in there.
Be advised, the motor is in the trunk (boot) behidn the carpet on the LH side of the car... under a plastic protective cover. On mine (87, which had the later-style motor setup) the microswitches at the motor were loose, badly. I had to tighten those up in addition to replacing the gears.
Oh, yeah, gear availability - shouldn't be a problem. Over here, they're about $8 each from our parts suppliers... like Paragon. I think they're just factory parts, so I'd just hit up your favourite local supplier or dealer... _________________ Vaughan Scott

| thanks for the info, i have had a look at the motor. It is missing the two relays required which i need to get. Unfortunately i cannot even wind mine manually as the nut has been pushed in too far and has been stripped so i cannot get a socket onto it. I may just get a replacement unit, that would solve the problem. |
