I paid the guy 100 deposit yesterday because he said someone else was going to buy it this week and I came back today to check some more things. I noticed that there is a crack on the windshield near the battery box.... Then I was looking at the engine and noticed one of the coolant temp sensors had no wires going to it (cold start valve?) and further I was completely shocked when I looked closer and saw that there was no air filter! After seeing that there is no airfilter I ran away, but first I got my deposit back and told the guy that I he had not told me about a bad crack on the winshield and an engine that has been run with no airfilter will be toast very soon.

wow first I was happy to buy such a "nice" car, look very nice from the outside, shiny paint, new porsche wheels runs good.....but it was a piece of crap in disguise.

I guess cheap always means piece of crap, the car was listed for 4500 and the guy wanted to give it to me for 4000 and I was going to pay him today...... I got frickin luck!

I guess I shouldn't look at anything under 6000 because so far they've all been crap.

It's been over a week since Timstar has mentioned buying a car...and I made a bet he would have a 944 by the end of the month? So what are you buying Tim?

clarks garage is good I've read all the timing belt procedures etc but it looks too complicated for me and I'd be to nervous to touch the timing belts myself, I'm just going to take it to weissach in vancouver and get it done there, it'll probably cost me 2000 but it's worth the piece of mind.

it's still a good deal if I don't get any suprise major mechanical problems (944s aren't as cheap her as they are in the states), 4000 for a late 944 is cheap here. .

the body / paint are pefect, new porsche rims, brand new brakes.

Almost all the 944s I've seen have no records for the timing belt or they were done too long ago. Most people don't change the timing belt before they sell the car as it's expensive.

I have no idea how much it costs but I've been told 1500-2000 is the price range in Vanvcouver for a full front engine service. I'll probably have to flush all the fluids also just to be safe.

the engine looks dirty I'm going to get it cleaned... the guy says that there are no oil leaks. The interior isn't super the dash has a couple of cracks which is noticable the seats aren't ripped but the leather has small hairline cracks all over it, probably normal for a car this age. All the electricals seem to work.... power windows, rear wiper, headlights.

the owner said the clutch engages fine and shifts good, no grinding.I just went in a short test drive.

engine when running had a ticking noise from the top but I'm pretty sure those are the fuel injectors firing.

the guy like all the other owners I've seen says don't worry about the timing belt he claims it was done at 95k and it is now at 125k.

Atleast Tim is going to pester someone else now.

It doesn't appear that he learned anything while he was here.

Another repainted car. This one with body modifications. 951 bumpers don't just slide onto a 944. Other parts get changed, like the headlight covers, and there are some differences in the support structure. The bumper covers may look fine to an inexperienced person like Timstar, and be a disaster under the skin. Kinda like his 924 was.

Doing the belt change on a 924S/944 is not for everybody. If Timstar has finally realized his limitations and has the cash to pay to have the work done correctly, more power to him.

Too bad he still hasn't learned to listen or read....
