Has anyone done anything cool with their old non-electrical sunroof? Was thinking about replacing the standard panel in my '81 924 with something that has tinted glass in it - to give that open top feeling, without opening the top!
The existing sunroof can't possibly have any structural qualities, so it's purely a cosmetic upgrade right...?

I've read on this board that the sunroof models actually are more rigid
than the normal 924 because there is more bracketing. Only downside
is a little more weight. |

I believe that's what the Yanks call the "Saratoga" top. Do a search for it, plenty of threads about it. Apparently no longer available (new) and incredibly rare and expensive second-hand!
I see no reason why you couldn't make your own. But like most things, it'll probably end up more expensive and time-consuming than you think. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

<insert time Googling here>
Wow. What a sad and sorry history. The Saratoga's seem as rare as rocking horse crap, and equally pricey! Hmm, might have to ditch that idea - I got no skills working with glass/plexi materials... bummer.

The "saratoga" top was offered as an accessory (944's I think) but it seems not many ordered them (go figure?), there was a company making after market units, but they didn't for long. These days everyone with a 924,944,968 wants one and they are big $$$$ anywhere form $500 to $1000 (US) _________________ Rick

Yes, but youd have to cut out the existing frame and weld in the power units frame, run the wiring, change the headliner, ect.. lots of work. i think it might be easier to use an after market power roof, but not by much. _________________ Eric

Hello,
a good internet site for sunroof issues is www.inalfa.nl
Inalfa is a Tier1 supplier to almost any manufacturer and has also aftermarket sunroofs of diffrent styles.

Hallo JB,
das wetter wird schlechter, vor 2 Wochen war es noch 26 Grad plus und jetzt ist es windig und nachts so um den Gefrierpunkt (Freezing-point)
Aber es ist Herbst (Fall) und das ist wohl normal so.

I am going to suggest that you leave the sunroof alone. I have had them on two cars and they are a pain in the neck if the motor breaks. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"
