The lastest issue of 911 & Porsche World (Issue 89) has an article on a conversion of a 931 to a 937 for racing. Good pictures. Weak text.

Ok, I read it and only wish I could afford to take my (assuming I had one) 937 apart to turn my 931 into a 937 clone so I could go racing. His reasoning doing was that his 937 was becoming to valuable, so he took it apart? I mean gosh, sure some of the parts on the 924GT are made of unobtainium, and I can see not wanting to race a potenally valuable car, but come on! Now I am confused, I think if you wanted to keep it all origional. . . . but any parts that are used in the clone. . . . will it, now need a complete restoration? Whatever, just I think he should have kept his 937 complete. See what happens when yupies race?

That's a bit harsh.
I've seen this car race and it is awsome. It corners so well compared to the 911 SC's it is up against. Shame it hasn't got the grunt out of corners that the 911 has.
Anyway after the race I had a chat with the driver, very nice bloke.
If you race a car you have to be prepared for it to get shunted now and again. If you haven't got money to burn why risk smashing up your rare GT when you could race a 931? If it gets written off it is not such a great loss to the owner than losing his GT.
You don't see many GT's racing because they are rather rare. I'm glad he converted his 931 as now I have had a chance to see one (actually two) on track.
