Assuming you're using Windows...
Open your picture in the Windows-supplied "Paint" program.
Select "resize" if it's a later version of Paint (see below if an earlier version (if earlier, the selection "resize" won't be available from the main screen))
A small window opens -
select "pixels" and "maintain aspect ratio", skip "Horizontal:", and type 80 in "Vertical:".
[Do not enter anything in the "Skew" section.]
Click "OK". You should see your picture shrink down.
Now save it - Click the small blue rectangle at upper-left. Click "Save As", add something to the name (I add "Rs" for Resized), click OK.
Upload the little fella to your picture hosting site, etc., etc...
For older vers. of Paint -
Open the picture file in Paint.
Click on "Image", then "Stretch/Skew...".
Under "Stretch", it should show 100% in both fields.
Enter 13% (to resize an 800x600 image for use as an avatar) in place of both 100%s (use the same number in both fields to avoid distorting the image).
Optional: Click "Image", then "Attributes" to see how big the image will be.
Click "Edit", then "Save" or "Save As..." when you're done resizing..
-Or copy this one (already resized to 106x80) and upload it.
"Avatar" = these small pics that appear with your name on posts. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."
