Shell is now promoting an oil for high mileage engines that has the 25W-60 rating (itīs mineral I guess)

What do you think of this oil for our 924 - Here in Buenos Aires the temperature in winter rarely goes under 5-7 C°

Dunno how many miles mine has done since it was rebuilt (PO rebuilt it sometime in the distant past). But the *still working* odometer reads about 166,000km's (clocked once, as I understand it).

I use Mobil 1 10W-50 at the moment (it's fully synthetic, of course). Haven't had any problems with it. I imagine our minimum and maximum temperatures here are similar to yours there..?

Still, most new oils from suppliers like Shell and Mobil are probably so damn good I doubt you'll have any problems no matter what you use.

The only warning I can pass on is what I've read here, which is: Don't swap to a fully synthetic after using a mineral oil.

Even so, many here do not even necessarily agree with that...

I think that might be a little heavy, unless you do endurance racing in the desert...

I run 20w50 during the summer, plain old Castrol GTX, and 10W40 in the winter time, temperature range is usually -5C to 15C for winter, 15C to 35C summer.

Synthetic is a good thing to have for a 924 Turbo for sure, given that the turbocharger is oil cooled, and synthetics stand up to that kind of abuse better than conventional oils.

Definitely too heavy.

It will make your oil pressure look good, but that's because it will be slower moving through the smaller oilways - like up to the cam gear, for example.

20W50 should be the heaviest you'd need in any kind of moderate climate, even in a high-mileage engine.
