I got a phone call from the mechanic that my car is running and they said that they set the timing to 10 degrees btdc when the timing is suppose to be 3 degrees atdc.... they said that my car was running like crap even at 6 degrees bdtc and they said they still have to adjust it to 10 degrees bdtc.

is this okay? I thought if you set the timing so off fromt he factory specs it can cause engine damage. but I"m assuming the mechanics know what they are doing.

they also said that they did a coolant system pressure test and found 2 leaks on the radiator hose. but I had a leak coming from the back of the head which they said they did not find...... I thought I may have fixed it as I tightened down my coolant flange. but the car would only dump coolant from the back of the head when it was started from cold.

I already knew the radiator hose leaked a tiny bit somethimes.

would a coolant pressure test find a leak that only happens when the engine is cool if it is preformed when the engine is hot?

also the mechanic told me that I had the distributer in wrong. I can't figure out how I had it in wrong as the rotor was alligned under the # 1 plug, but haynes says that when putting in the dist to not let the rotor move away from the scribed mark on the dist but I would move the dist clockwise further away from the dist so when I put it in it would move to the scribed mark when it meshes with the drive gear. haynes says to hold the rotor in the same position and mesh the gears without letting the rotor move. would this make a difference?

hahah as soon as I towed my car out of the covered driveway my mom took the spot and I dont' think she'll ever let me use it again because I had the 924 under the cover for over 3 months and she had to leave her car in the rain...

my car's probaby a swimming pool by now the sunroof leaks and the hatch also leaks because the drain tubes in the hatch were removed because they are clogged and broken so I have use a new hose for the hatch drain tubes. I think any similar size drain tube should work although the oem tube has a different diameter on both ends.

I don't think the mechanic did a compresison test on my engine so there is still a possibility that I have a cracked headgasket and I'm not 100% sure yet if they actually fixed the coolant leak.

after this I still have to sort out my "fume" problem, first I'm buying a digital carbon monoxide detector to make sure it's exhaust.

10 deg BTDC is too much, 6 Deg BTDC is the best setting

he said he would just advance it until up to where there is no pinging. he'll test drive it tomorrow and see if it's okay.

I guess I could always change it myself, it should be easy for me to move the timing from 10 tdc to 6 degrees if there is a problem.

he also said there should be no difference if the vacuum hoses are connected or not when setting the timing....

for the euro model 924 haynes says 10 degrees btdc with vacuum hoses disconnected.
