Okay, so it sounds like leaving it to the pros is the way to go. But what kind of price am I looking at? Anyone know where I can find a good deal?

I bought one in May of 97 from my local dealer for $733.20 with a 2 year Porsche warranty.

Yeah, but I don't need to buy one, just have mine rebuilt. Isn't the core charge on a k26 about $300? Would that bring it to just over $400?

i don't know if mine needs a rebuild, but it looks filthy. is there a good way to clean it without tearing it apart?

Paul, you bought a new or rebuild motor for $730 from a dealer? With a warranty? My god... That had a turbo and everthing?

Frisky, you can clean it with any good engine cleaner or shampoo. Just make sure the car is COLD.

I've found though that you should avoid the wiring and exhaust with this GUNK. It's flammable. Or buy a couple of fire extinguishers and put them on your passenger seat...or better yet, ask your passenger to hold them...

well i hope the engine will be cold as the damn thing is not even in my car! it's half apart in my shed hehe. and i would just pour a bunch of Gunk into the turbo and then wash it out later or what?
thanks.
