I want to lighten my flywheel. has anybody worked out the ideal weight, the car will be used for occasional track use and is my daily car.

The ideal weight is the least amount you can still drive the car with (as a driver, reflecting on your skill).
Not sure about the minimum thickness. I've heard of people taking nearly half the thickness away - just have the machinist remove the dowel pins (that locate the pressure plate) before surfacing, and remove material across the full face of the flywheel, not just where the clutch disc makes contact...

You took off 1/10th of an inch, didn't you Vaughan?
Anyways, that's what I took off mine. It's also being balanced along with the clutch, pistons, rods, crank, etc.

You have to lighten the flywheel from the back not from the clutch surface side. I had mine on a 924 down to 10.5 lbs with good reliability. Make sure to balance pressure plate with it. |
