Porsche 956 was a pure race, later called 962. The engine was a 2,65 l twinturbo boxersix with 626hp@8400rpm.
Itīs a brand new K26 with K27 backplate, housing and 3060 compressorwheel. Only oil cooled and a #10 turbine housing. Manufactored in 1987 according to stamps inside the housing. I would say this is evidence of oilcooling is sufficient, no need for watercooling in racing. And since it is a K26, the 931 turbine housing fits like a glove

That cant be right, here is another map of a K27 compressor.
Surely they are not that different...or?

It's from "Turbo: Real World High-Performance Turbocharger Systems" by Jay K. Miller.
Don't know if there are some other KKK compressors with that index. But "G" relates to a specific comp wheel design AFAIK. _________________ WBR, Shurick

Surely k27s will all have different maps.. Like the 931 S2 VS 951 k26/8, they are both k26 turbos but much different sized compressors therefore very different maps..
K26 or K27 mostly just means what turbine they use, almost all k26 turbo's use the same turbine wheel/shaft or interchangeable versions of turbines (except the /6). K27s mostly all use the same turbine wheel/shaft too but have different compressors just like the K26s, I do not doubt K27 compressors can be as wildly different from each other as different K26 compressors are..
Shurick - Where did you find that map and are there more? It would be excelent if we could compile as many maps as we can get our hands on..
Morghen - what exact K27 is your map for?
I have not had much luck trying to find specs for different k27 compressors (inducer sizes) much less actual maps..
I have found that every k26 I've had has the same compressor exducer size, or max wheel diameter, and the bigger k26 compressors are just stepping up inducer sizes, I bet that k27 compressors are similar in that there exducer size is a step up from the k26 and the k27s will come in all different inducer sizes like the k26s do..
As far as k26 backplates go they all seem to fit any comp wheel but come with different center bores for different size compressor side pistons/rings. I have 4 different k26 backplates sitting here and they all fit everything fine if you use the comp side piston/rings that came with that backplate, I have 3 different sized comp side pistons/backplates but they are interchangeable if you swap the correct piston with them..
I have also found that a k26/6 has a different heat shield with a thinner rim to where if you put a normal k26 turbine in it it will sit too deep in your turbine housing and the wheel will touch. The k26/6 is very much an oddball and I expect it is some custom thing Porsche tried that didn't work out so great and they went back to the standard k26 turbine in the /8 like all the 931 turbos and 99% of other k26 turbos use..
I do expect that if you take any k27 comp side piston, rings, backplate, comp wheel, and comp housing it will bolt right on a k26 bearing housing but I don't know yet.. They could have different back plate to bearing housing mating points and different comp piston widths, the comp pistons also double as comp side thrust washers that run on the thrust bearing so if they are different widths/spacing/size you have a problem there.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

The most common size of K26 exducer size is 2.6" or 66 mm. But this turbo has a massive 3" wheel. Looks like K27 compressor on a K26 turbo shaft. _________________ WBR, Shurick

I only got the 3072 but guessed it to be rather large:
A Blitz 450hp K3T K27/K26 with 53mm inducer and #8 hotside is now hanging from the exhaust manifold The 3060 was too small... _________________ Carl Fredrik Torkildsen
