If my 1980 931 has a KKK turbo with #'s being 5326-970-6407 does that make it the same as what is on a 1981? If so, does that mean I got a bunch of other 81' parts backing it up on my car?, and/or hence less power potential, or does it just mean I got a late car for that model year with the strength of an 80' and recessed gaskets to boot?... And hey Bob, do you think I need that $99 Turbo rebuild kit for my oil smoking problem? (see other posting Tech Forum)
Sincerely,
Kevin

Wait and see. There isn't any seals that can harden in the turbo innards. The seals are actually steel rings. If you can somehow get into the system and give the turbine a spin you could tell if there is to much play or if the action is rough.
I've cleaned two turbos and been good so far. I had a new kit to measure tolerances from and guess what no appreciable wear, just alot of harden oil coked oil.
