I will be picking up my 1980 924 Turbo this weekend. I have read conflicting reports on when they changed from the early S1 to late S2 spec.

I believe the changes are in the electronics, throttle body, turbocharger size and sump breathing.

What is an easy way to identify which one I have?

If the throttle body is oval - it's an early series 1 car.
If the throttle body is round - it's a later series 2 car.

That's just what comes to mind.

Good luck

Looks like mine is an S1 then. It has the rubber boot and 2 clamps connecting the throttle body to the crossover pipe.

I know theres some reliability variance between the S1 and S2. Can you swap any of the S2 parts onto the S1 to upgrade it?

The throttle body is the first one as I want to recreate a Carrera GT intercooler at some point.

lol too much, the S2 will have a single butterfly throttle body, and a very small icm piece in the front wheel well, the S1 has a dual butterfly throttlebody, and has a large silver box in the front wheel well area

There is a list of items that will be different between the S1 and S2.

But I wouldn't worry about it much, you have 170 HP, 5 bolt 4 wheel disc and formt eh pics of the car a good start towards a GT replica.

I would keep the 968 wing personally

You will need the complete intake to swap over to the S2 style for the intercooler mount if you plan on using an original intercooler.

The throttle bodies are different enough here in the US that they won't swap out.

Thanks guys.

I collect the car tomorrow so I will have a good look at the layout.

I am getting some uprated Bilsteins and -30mm springs so it sits right and then I will be checking the engine over before I embark on any tuning work.

I have friend with a rolling road thats offered to set it up and test it before I carry out any work.

Bob. Got your email. Send me details of the parts to admin@visualdelivery.co.uk

Thx
