So, given the choice, what would you do? I'm assuming that either swap is going to be a royal pain in the butt... but if I'm going to do the Carrera GT look down the road, I wanna have the power to back it up. |

That's kinda what I'm leaning towards. From what I saw somewhere else on the board, if I wanted the 968 motor I'd have to get a new crossmember etc. Not sure if that's needed with the 951, but I think it should be easier for me to find the 951 motor and "stuff" vs the 968.
Plus there was a pretty cool "upgrade" over at fast44.com for the 951. Muhahahaha... man, that sucker would fly with that much power.

I was talking to my garage about an S2 engine with an early 944 box (lower gearing)
- 951 means you have to find room for an intercooler
apparently a turbo with a 968 bottom end is also an option.. _________________ current - '90 944S2, '00 986S,

If you wanted to drop 6 grand or so there is a guy on eBay with a low mile 968 motor and 6 speed that claims to have everything you would need to drop it in your 924. It is listed for more $$$ but has been there for a while.
Given the choice though, I'd go 951. Either way you are looking at some up front dollars and higher maintanence down the road. But oohh the fun you'de have in between emptying your bank account would probably make up for it. _________________ MJ

That's the problem, Mark... emptying the bank account. My fiance calls these ideas my "crack ideas". It could work though... just gotta plop enough money into it.
There was a 944 Turbo S for sale here in Hawaii. The only one I've seen. $15K. That's a far cry from what my li'l 924S went for, but then again... 148-ish horsepower...or the 300 this guy is claming.
We'll have to see how the next year or so pans out financially. If I do well enough I might just sell the 924 and get a 944T, or hell... might even try to import a 937. That's what I'd really like to do - get a real 937 and just drive the hell out of it.

I would think the 944T would be a tad bit easier swap since it is the "same" basic engine that the 924S has, so it could work pretty easy, where the 968 is a different car competely. Plus there is a lot more you can tune on a Turbo vs. NA _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red

Swapping 968 motor is less work actually, because it is a NA motor, and in our local Porcsche Club a guy swapped 968 motor & trans into '87 944, no problem. Here's some pics and info of the car: http://carrating.org/car.php?461 _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

I am thinking about this swap my self. 968 will be my choice. But, my 924 is only an N/A, is there mutch more work compared if I had a 924S? |

No as I understand it , you will need the engine of course , bell housing , torque tube and the trans and cv joints , trans mount may be differnt and may need to modify the cross member and motor mounts , btw by the time you do the wiring and install ecu , I belive you will have a Phd in electrical automotive engineering, Jesse _________________ jesse wall 'new driver' , 87 924s |

you might want to put a little attention into the brakes then, drums probably wouldn't cut it _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red
