I don't know about the older ones but my mom's Jetta with 90hp has np hitting upwards of 125. Of course she stopped there after she hit a cattle guard on the road. It was out in Nevada North of Vegas.

well, since I need a beater with higher fuel mileage I took the plunge. Yesterday, I started removing the fuel injection system off the 924 and today I picked up an 1981 Audi 5cyl diesel engine. I have been researching and the 5 cyl fits and bolts up. The engines look very similiar, slant and size. I will be taken pictures but I'don't know if I can post them. I'm cleaning and unloading the engine tomorrow and insepecting it more closely, before I pull the gas engine out which might happen this weekend. Does anyone know the hp/tq ratings of the diesels, non turbos and the rpm range? I'll keep posting my progress as the project continues, I hoping to have it in and running by August.

PAB:

Hope you are around. Would love to hear how you are doing. Finally found a car to do a prototype swap of Audi diesel. Sorry, don't have the power rating for the NA, but would guess it in the high 60s. Port the head, and you will pick up an easy 10. Put very free flowing exhaust in place, and you should get another 5.

I thought there are a couple of guys doing the vw diesel conversion. Any status report would be good.

Also, any thoughts of using biodiesel after the conversion?

i gave up on the idea , to time consuming, need the time to finish my 73 911s, i'm actually selling the 924 , and i'll get a 944 for daily abusing...

but yeah , whoever tries it , bio diesel will work , most diesels can take it
here in holland, folks have been going to supermarkets , buying vegetable , cooking oil to chuck in their cars

30-40% in winter, more in summer

taxman wasn't happy , made some noise about it beeing illegal to use ontaxed oil in a car...

Hey forget the bashing, making the 924 an economy car isn't such a bad idea. It's not like they are very fast to begin with. And in defence of the VW diesel blocks, they CAN be built, have tons of turbo potential, and with some....well some major... mods he could even bump his redline up to 6500 put it on a bottle and blow the doors off a stock turbo 924.

The 2,5tdi is an excellent engine. It's a VAG 5cyl inline found from newer Volvos (850, S70, V70), old Audis (at least Audi 100 -90-92 or so) and VW T4. There is a Finnish guy who has got more than 300hk in a T4:

Maybe more impressive:
14,53s, 100mph @1/4-mile, remember 4000lbs of FWD minivan!

Please remember that the latest Porsche Cayenne is a diesel

Hello ALL!

I am in research mode for dropping a TDI in my 82 924 turbo.
The audi 016 tranny will handle the torque, its the gear ratios i'm worried about.
lining up the engine - transmission is a concern.
As for power...
I've been reading on the tdi forums - people making 200+ HP with the 1.9 TDI. 250+ with the euro 16 valve, and not sacrificing mpgs. So basically you get BETTER than 50 mpg and the power of the GT with more torque, sounds fun to me...
the jetta weight is 3400 lb. 924 turbo is 2300 lb. = better mpg right there.
I'm still looking for my donor car, when i really get going - i'll be posting alot.
