due to insurance and road tax, I have had to sell the red terror. I am absolutely gutted

Oh man, no way! What's the tax/insurance over there? Our registration is about AU$580/year (no "road tax" but it's probably included in our registration). My insurance is about AU$1000/year but only because of my age ( 28 ). It will get cheaper eventually. That's about 650 pounds?

Sorry to hear about the loss. Maybe you can get another in the near future...

insurance was £530 this year (2 years no claim, TPFT only, age 30), and tax £160.

Your reg seems pretty high especially earning in dollars. Insurance seems to be a rip-off no matter where you are.

I will get me another Porsche as soon as the cash flow sorts itself out.

bit late mate, dunno if you've ever worked in the public sector (civil service, police, nhs or owt like that) but if so then Frizzell mighta done you a canny deal on the insurance - mine was sub £250 last year, though i've got 7yrs ncb. That was fully comp with no restrictions either unlike a classic policy...

Good luck getting the cash flow sorted and finding another '24

Yeah, our rego is high. But a few years ago, when I bought the Porker, it was only about AU$430 and when I got my first car ('94) it was under AU$300 IIRC. So it's jumped a lot in last few years. But that does include compulsory third party insurance.

Of course, the "Gummint" don't spend jack-sh*t on fixing the roads, so God only knows where all that cash goes...

We've now got "road tax" in the form of speed cameras. They're farkin' criminals! Still, I've heard you blokes have "Gatso's" or something, same as we have here. Bastard things, aren't they?!

they got rid of speed cameras over here, too unreliable, although if you get a plastic shield for your license plate and wax it making it very shiny and then in all light levels take a photo from all different angles and see how much of your plate you can ACTUALLY read, I think you can get it to just be a blur of white light when done right

Yeah Lizard, when the cameras first came out, some clever fellas sold number plate guards that somehow did what you are saying. Needless to say, as soon as it was proven that they actually worked, they were banned!

The amusing part is, they couldn't be banned because they thwarted the cameras. So now it's just illegal to have anything covering your number plate! So unfortunately, your theory won't work here.

Could you put a bend in the plate? From left to right, an inch from the top. So it points downward. Then say someone must have backed into it.

Theve threatened to put em up here on the residential streets So if you blow thru on red yer busted . They wont do it though not enough money

Nah, can't do it. It's illegal to have a damaged number plate. You're required by law to have it replaced. You'd conceivably avoid a speed camera fine but the cops could do you for an illegal 'plate... the fine would be cheaper but to avoid a camera you'd have to have the 'plate like that permanently and the cops would be forever fining you because of it.

another thing that does work is to cover the license plate in a HIGHLY reflective wax or polish or spray of some sort, it will require constance maitenance but will be better than getting a ticket, and harder for them to prove

meguires high gloss car wax, and next year before renewing your tags sand your plate with high grit sand paper and repaint it with high gloss paint (use the correct colors) and put a layer or 2 of high gloss clear coat on it, then buf with that wax, it can be made shine enough to block out any photos, and would never be detectable unless they pulled your plate off and sent it to a shop to have it tested, and like they would ever do that, 1 in a million ppl would ever do it and they wouldnt have a clue, or bother testing, you would have to do both front and back plates

here in the usa they use a special reflective paint (like stop signs)for the background color which makes the numbers/letters stand out , a coat of flat paint should fix that. only 1 way to test it though $$$
