Hello everyone. My wife and I just found a 1980 924 turbo at a Salvation auction for $450.00. Since my wife is going through a mid-life crisis, we went ahead and dropped the bones and bought the car. It's got 107K miles on it. The engine turns over, but won't fire...

I'm going through the usual process. Oil change, changing spark plugs, etc. to rule out possible causes. I intend to keep coming back to this most excellent board for additional tips and tricks. You guys are fantastic when it comes to sharing information!!

My question is on VIN's. I have no history on the vehicle and am having a hard time getting the VIN number decoded. Can someone help me out?

VIN # 93A0151496

Thanks....

Jimmy

I believe that you have yourself a 1980 924 turbo or as knownby porsche fanatics evrywhere a 931.

Good luck; i just got mine a couple of months back and is addictive.

Jimmy
From your VIN # you can tell it is a 1980 turbo
93A 1980
O is plant designation Audi plant
1 is Vehicle type Turbo
5 designates It is USA or Japan prepaired car
1496 is build number. In other words 1496th built that year.

Yeah, make sure you're getting fuel - fuel filter, fuel pump relay (try jumpering it), fuel pump, check in that order...

Good luck, enjoy!

(Firewalls still suck!)

Thanks for the fuel system advice Vaughan. While I haven't gone completely through it, I get a stong gas smell in the engine compartment when I try to start the car. While this may be a bad assumption, I am assuming the engine is getting fuel, based on the smell.

Ciao
