My fellow 924 admirers,

welcome to the new discussion board software. I hope you enjoy using it.

If you have any questions about using the board, problems using it or suggestions for new features, post them here.

First, some basic rules;

Posting/Replying:

Before you can post or reply you must register. It's no biggie, just click the "Register" link at the top of the page and enter a few details. If you check the "remember my username" box then you'll only have to enter your password when you have an overwhelming desire to share.

By not allowing anonymous posts we hope to reduce the noise that has been appearing on the board lately.

IP Tracking:

The IP address of all posts to the forums is stored in the database. The IPs can only be seen by the administrator (Vaughan) and does not represent a loss of security to you. This is standard stuff with most discussion boards, it's just that most don't mention it.

What this does allow us to do is to see if someone is spamming the board by registering and posting under multiple user names.

User/IP Banning:

This software allows the administrator to ban a person or an IP address. I'm sure that this will only be used in severe cases. Fortunately, issues of "freedom of speech" do not enter here as the discussion board is hosted on a privately owned server in Australia where freedom of speech is more of an agreement than a binding law.

The old discussion board:

I've asked Vaughan to send me all the posts on the old board. I will load the posts onto the new board so all the wisdom is not lost.

Future enhancements:

I am currently looking at adding "Avatars" to the board (icon-sized pics posted with your username) and being able to include images with your posts. Hopefully not too long.

For now,
enjoy the smiles.

Dave,

click on the FAQ link at the top of any page or click the Smilies link at the bottom of the Post form.

You just type or copy/paste what's in the "What to Type" column. Easy.
