I need to select and acquire a blow-off valve for the UWB. Before I committed to converting to EFI, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that I'd have to replace the stock recirc valve with an aftermarket recirculating valve (since my custom turbo doesn't use the stock cold-side housing). Now that I'm going EFI, I don't have to recirculate, but I'm concerned I might get sick of the PSSSHT sound all the time, so I may stick with a recirc or plumb-back setup regardless. I know there are two primary styles, piston and valve, and I know some can be sized for boost pressure, while others can be sized for target BHP. Noise issues aside, what are the factors I need to consider when selecting a BOV?

I thought the only choices for BOV were what colour and how loud?

Yeah, it would be a bit out of place, eh?

Any opinion on the piston vs. valve style???

Another differentiator is whether or not they require weld-on flanges as opposed to standard hose connections. To limit the amount of required fabrication, I prefer the latter, which narrows the field considerably to the following:
  • Perrin ASM-INT-600 (~$210)
  • Tial Alpha Q (~$260)
  • Go Fast Bits Plumback (~$180)
  • Turbo XS (RBV-H34) Racing Bypass Valve Type H34 (~$190)
  • Samco DVRL-1P-001 (~$150)
  • Forge Motorsports FMDV006 (~$170)

Perrin is well known in the Subaru world, Tial in the Porsche world, either of those would likely be a quality part.

Yeah, that's a pretty cool concept! I wish their stuff was more readily available over here...

What about idle control valve? The DTA manual doesn't include any recommendations for that...

Huh? I got everything required to do that off the internet without any difficulties.

What kind of control are you looking for? just fast idle? or something more like a stepper motor? what do you have to control it? pwm?

just like the Forge but less expensive

as for the idle valve i will use a bosch one from a vw.

Ah, hadn't seen their BOV, thanks for that Rocco. Any help on the part number for your Bosch idle control valve? Or alternatively, what model year & make is it from?

What about the standard Bosch 0 280 142 106 (VAG#034 145 710A), found in all Audi turbo models or the uprated 06A-145-710-N. (Bosch sport is 110). Exact the same att 944 turbo except for metal diaphragm istead of rubber (Porsche 944 Bosch PN 0 280 142 108). The Porsche part number is 993.110.337.5

Saab Turbos use the Bosch PN0 280 142 103
Sport Quattro and Porsch 964 turbo use 0 280 142 102

Not fancy, only high quality. Comes in Henry Ford color - black
