OK, my paint code is Y5Y5... anyone got any idea what that is?

The current colour is a gun-metal grey metallic;

Cheers Lizard, but "Y5Y5" isn't listed there...

It shows as "ALPAKA BEIGE MET" for Audi years 2001-2005 here -
http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/formula/car_finder.cfm
Enter Y5Y5 in "Color Code:" and leave -Include All- in "Car Make:". Specifying Porsche or VW doesn't get it. It only shows under Audi.

OK, thanks Smoothie.

The paint code Y5Y5 is the listed colour in my owners manual (the original, with correct VIN and option codes, etc). Still, it could be a misprint? The car has definitely been repainted at some stage (and it's a bloody good job, too). The engine bay colour is a duller, almost battleship, grey. The body colour is a deep metallic grey.

I suspect it might be a later 944 colour... I've seen 944's in the past that I have thought looked the same colour as my car.

Y5 Y5 is Meteor metallic.

I'm sitting with the "Farben und Innenausstattung '81"-brochure (colours and interior brochure) for 924/924 turbo in front of me ...

of course, you probably asked how many arms his mother had!!

so, where does it say what paint code your car is?
is it in the manual, or stamped somewhere in the engine bay?

The paint code for mine is on the last page of the Owner's Manual. It's the dealer delivery slip. Has the VIN, option codes, paint code, etc...

There are stickers in the engine bay with the paint codes, see this photo, bottom center. RHD cars may have the stickers on the opposite side as what is shown, I'm not sure.

The paint code on my '80 is on a silver sticker, under the hood, on the left side of the drivers footwell hump, near the wiper motor.
