On its way to the paint shop for a fresh coat:
http://www.vaughanscott.com/after_crash/repair%20progress.htm
It'll be getting shot pure white by MAACO, then we'll follow up with spray bombs to make it look like a racecar (by adding red and blue), stickers, etc.
We plan to be out at Waterford this weekend! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Very kewl pics. I don't think I've ever seen quite *that* many kleco's at one time looks like a porcupine attacked you RR fender
Actually, it looks great!! The white will help disguise any bodywork (and I hear it is faster than the blue ). Be sure to post pics of the MAACO "after" shots. |

How do you get that beer to stay put around corners? With all the work you've put in, you might want to consider cup holders _________________ Tim

LOL! Those weren't clecos, actually - they were welded studs from the stud gun... _________________ Vaughan Scott

I think you should have left them on. If fact, I think you should have covered the whole bloomin car with them. Nobody'd be rubbing fenders with you then, eh? It'd be like Ben Hur (Vaughan Hur??) of SCCA. |

Good idea getting all the dust off #77. I can't wait to see the after pics. Reminds me of when we painted (when I say we, I mean my father, I just prepped and sanded) our new car. That seemed like a year ago but was really like 5 months ago.
Good Luck this weekend! I'd like to be up there with you too. Hopefully we can meet up at Mid-Ohio.

Vaughn;
The car looks really good. Quick question, how much did Maaco charge for the paint?
Cant wait to hear how it runs at the next race. |

It worked out to about $320 USD. It was $229 for the basic paint job, $25 for a color change (car was originally blue), and the remainder for their prep. And it looks, on close inspection, like a $300 paint job. Good enough for a racecar! Basic rule of thumb for painting racecars:
100 points at 10 paces... at 100mph! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Looks soooo nice and faster.
Did you paint blue and red after? Why did you ask MAACO do all?
You need to paint your turbo! _________________ R.I.P.:a 924 ITA race car |

Nice man does that ring the bell... I looked at the work you
guys were doin right up to paint.. saved all the pics back from the
paint shop after lightening them...surprised a bit you did it in rattlecan
and well clear would add strength so rocksa and shuff flying up wont
ding and chip your finish. Napa econo- body overall clearcoat #15405
is good and strong you cant wax it though or poish it no need it dries
glossy.. You know it looks nice and brave good color scheme.
kind of nostalgic to the whole 924 thing. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Thanks! Yes, I did the red/blue after, with spraycan. The reason was time and cost. They're applied over good base white paint, so I can, if I get sick of this scheme, take them off without too much effort and either paint on a new paint scheme (blank canvas) or use vinyl graphics. Easily done.
You're right, the 931 needs paint, but it's at the bottom of the list, and the bumper and mirrors are the worst of all. The other 931 will be getting paint before, since it's got the GTR bodywork coming next.
The reason we did not do clearcoat is that clearcoat is a bitch to touch-up - no good for a racecar! This is all single-stage, standard 2003 General Motors White, easy to find and replace. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Great job with the paint!!! It's looks very nice from the pictures. The blue and red look cool too.
Makes you think twice about putting all those stickers on the car that were "required" to run in our various series doesn't it?
These pictures remind me of when we finally finished with our graphics, numbers, etc and the car turned it's first wheel in anger. For a minute there I was a little bummed that our paint job got stone chips in the paint.
Then I realized that it's going to happen especially on a track where our cars are usually at the back of the pack and a lot of stuff happens at the front. Take turn 2 in a recent 944 Cup race at Summit. Myself, Jerry long and Ryogi all had to take evasive action to miss a multi car pile up on the exit of T2. There was all kinds of S%^# flying around.
For those of you who saw our first photos of our new car, we added a a pin stripe metallic blue in honor of Vaughan Scott's original colors. Soon after it was applied did I learn that Vaughan was going in a different direction Anyway the new colors look much much nicer!
I can't wait to see #77 in person at a track soon! I also can't wait to hear how the new car ran this coming weekend. IT's time for something to go right for #77

Sure just call me mr. ego what you never heard of rocksa
and shuff flying around racen. You want to stay away from layering,
that clear will let you do it so each time you sprayed it usen the gravity feed to get more paint on the car instead of the cup gun to much atomization and the paint goes off into the air to blow. A quart of this stuff weighs alot. You buy that story dont you. Your a seasoned racer you know how it is out there. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
