Ick. It may be the linkage, as there's a number of bushings and a bolt that can come loose or fail... I gather Paul's mailed you the diagram... _________________ Vaughan Scott

I'd be dismantling the thing myself and welding back together whatever's broken, but I happen to have a welder already and some free time. You could actually get a decent mig welder for less than $550. I'm imagining you're not into that sort of thing though, so at least have them return you -all- the old parts and specify that beforehand and watch them write it down on the work order.
Can you tell I don't trust these places? _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Probably just missing bushings like this one:
or this could be shot too, just like this one:
The bushings and the cap cost less than $80 for both. |

| Paul, I have the busings coming for the shift linkage. Is the pin a press fit in that first picture? Would it be easier to remove the whole shift rod ass. and do it on a press, or can I do it while its still in the car. The tranny is still out. Thanks.........JP |

Yes, it is a press fit. Remove the shift rod. It may be physically possible to use a C-clamp and a sleeve of some sort to press the pin out, but the trouble and aggrivation won't be worth it. You've already un-hooked the rods from the shift knob up in the cockpit anyway, it isn't any big deal to get the rods in and out at this point. If you are replacing the anchor bushing (cup shaped thing), you'll have to pull the rod in order to accurately measure the distance and angle of the replacement piece. You've gone this far, may as well do it right. _________________ '79 Eurospec 931 |

I am replacing the anchor also. Upon inspection the bushing was missing and was being held down to the torque tube with zip ties.
I read about measuring the angle. I was just planning on counting the number of threads and measuring from the locknut to the end of the anchor on the old one and transferring that to the new one. I`ll have to read up on that a little more closely.
I haven`t unhooked any rods from the shift knob. I just pulled the trans out, the toque tube did not have to slide back.
Thanks for the advice cmxxxi. |
