|
|
I read all over that post about the ford into the 924, but no one posted a website or any information about where and how to go about purchasing a swap kit.
I would prefer not to have any 2 year old opinions here, I am serious about doing this. A motor is a motor, I happen to have a strong running 306 DSS built complete motor. The motor that is in my porsche is in good running condition, but I'm building a big block for the stang shortly and have not been able to sell the 944 and I'm looking for something different.
All advice is greatly appreciated.

Putting a smallblock Ford into a 924 is not different than putting a Chevy engine in, you just have to make sure your headers will fit, do custom exhaust, work out the wiring, make new motor mounts, modify the Ford bellhousing so it will mate to a torque tube, and upgrade to a better tranny.
I have a little theory I want to test out one of these days, when I tackle my 400M / RX7 project, using a G31 gearbox. The Audi based 931/944 trannies had a longer driveshaft by several inches, so it should be possible to cut off the end of a 944 inner driveshaft, have it recut or reforged for splines that will fit a Ford or Chevy clutch, and have a true "bolt on" conversion. |

The mustang clutch is only I think 9", not very big.. I have been doing a little research, and I think that some dodges used the same spline pattern and had 11" discs.. as soon as I get one I'll let y'all know if it works... |

I thought it only fit the clutch for the 4 cylinder Mustang!
Hmm, this could drastically improve my Ford V8 with G31 tranny into an '81 RX7 project
Unfortunately, the 400M has a big block clutch, so I'm not sure that it's teh same splining. I'll consult my redneck truck buddies and see what they say |
