It is not simple. You need to port out your intake with a dremle like Joe says and also do one of two things. Weld up your intake to create more landing for the idle bypass or make a plate to act as a new landing.

Newspeed makes a plate for this. There is an Audi throttle body of the correct vintage on ebay now.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33558&item=2417605529

If you want to see the welded ported intake go to my site.

Look under my projects the engine section. You will see what I have done.

Here is one on ebay that has the mounting plate. Would be a good score.

Joe it was not very much welding. Chris at Advanced made a mistake and welded up the wrong side first. So I got the bonus plan.

Anyway if you are using the same basic throttle body you should have dangerously thin amount of material to seal the edge where the idle air bypass is.

Hey were you not the one thinking you had a intake leak. Backfires or some thing?

Think that is your issue. Take another look at your throttle body interface and you will see what I mean. The bypass is sticking out over the edge of the stock intake manifold. I think we calculated approx .050" or less of wall to seal that edge.

I noticed in mine that there seems to be a restrictive ring installed in front of the smaller butterfly that says 25 on it. Different metal so i dunno if it is stock. Would it be safe for me to yank this and is this a stock thing?

Yes you can knock it out. Check out the bolt on Bonanza article and they talk about your throttle body.

Thanks. Does it really make much of a difference anyway?

Your engine will breath better but it will not make any appreciable effect. You need to port and polish your head and put in a better cam to see any improvement. Of course more compression also helps.

No no I had it on last year the back-fire was a lean mix issue had the co adjusted. Now I have the redline single throat on. and its nice. The audi tb didnt require welding to my knowledge. I matched the tb to the intake or should I say the intake to the tb.

Ok I made a copy and paste picture to show you what I am talking about. [/url]http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/eturbo924/vwp?.dir=/My+Photos&.dnm=ported+copy.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t

Take a look at the picture. I cut the air bypass off the manifold of the old throttle body and put it on the new opening. See how it is basically at the edge? If you do not look for this you will miss it. If you simply port out the intake and put the throttle body on you will not notice the issue. The air by pass basically is about out in the air. Maybe .050" or less. I do not recall the exact measurement I got.

If you look at the photo and the theoretical end of the intake. (with out the weld that is there) You will see the wall is basically not there to seal the throttle body. Most never notice this because when you have a gasket on the throttle body it covers the air bypass but does not properly seal.
