Do any of you have your front steel control arms boxed? Any difference noticed? How much did it cost for the welding and anything else you care to share about it. Thanks.

I think I know where I can shove those IT rules
Seriously? I guess I have to go back and take another look at the rule book.
Vaughan, Gonna get your website updated soon? Itchy to see some more of your mods. |

Heh heh... why did I guess that was gonna be the answer!?!
Yeah, I need to update the site - I'm up north (MN) doing winter test right now... but now I have a digi camera, so there's a chance. Once I have pics to upload. Apparently my lexan hatch is at home waiting to be delivered... that'll be the first big thing. Already have the new pistons. Next steps are get the shocks done (revalved) and get the machine shop started on the bottom end... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Better bring your A game to the J500, those guys are fanatical about that place. Great track and your gonna need to bring someone else with you to pry you out of the car because your having too much fun. Looking to upgrade the front suspension by the time J500 rolls around. I wish the season started yesterday.... |

Yeah, well, I figured a fresh coat of paint (over all that glass!) should be enough to intimidate... _________________ Vaughan Scott

No, not yet. I suppose one option would be a complete 1-pc glass front end as you suggest! Except for the width. That and using the stock front badge panel. However I still have to invest the funds, but motor (bottom end) and shocks come first... _________________ Vaughan Scott

For the rookie in me, bear with me. What exactly are you doing to your engine? I know your installing new pistons, anything else? Oil pick-ups? etc. I read the rules last night - can't alter original factory parts . Still have brand new control arms, ball joints coming though! Next I'm gonna get the front coil over kit from Paragon and new bushings. Paragon rides again! |

The pistons are the big thing; bore it out to max, and balance it. Unless I can find a windage tray.
That and some dyno tuning. _________________ Vaughan Scott

For PCA and all Cup cars, boxed control arms ARE legal. it's a safety issue, even as noted by PCNA on those steel arms -- not intended for racing.

Been using un-modified (new) steel arms for 4 years in endurance racing with no issues. Plus, if you beef them up, and hit something and the arm doesn't bend, then more exspensive things do! I carry spare $40 control arms, hard to carry a spare front clip! _________________ David Luney

Last fall there was a set of welded parts for sale on ebay. Try searching past auctions. I think that he wanted $200 for the pair. _________________ 1988 951

One area worth looking at for racing is strengthening the rear shock mounts on the rear arms - The GT's had the shock mounts on the rear arm reinforced and also the area around the bearings. _________________ Remember a Porsche is not just for Christmas,
