Sorry my bad give www.allporschetrophy.co.uk a go
Well things started off with snow flurries in the morning, very cold strong winds. The rest of the team turned up early morning and were we off on 20 minutes quali. For this year in this series with this car it is a two driver set up. Quali went well with us on 28th out of 37 and 1st in class(3cars). We shared the grid with Bernies V8's where we had 21 porsches!
Sadly lost a 924 to a split exhaust manifold.
I started the race, rolling start, and got into my rhythm and enjoyed the 20 mins, quick driver change in our mandatory 90 sec pit stop and young Sam was in the car going well.
Sadly the engine let go with about 5 minutes to go resulting in Sam spinning on his own oil and ending up in the gravel.
Block has a hole in it probably due to a missed gear change over rev.
Plan is to get this engine out and a new one in on Saturday, when we shall also be swapping the gear box of the class winning car as he finished with only 3 gears!
Great weekend, great to be out and about.
Brand's Hatch next, may 9th.
The race on Monday was live streamed so should be on YouTube I think, will find out.

Cool, keep us posted on the stream and repairs!
Bummer to have so many failures... here's hoping it's smoother sailing ahead. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Bit of an update on the season.
Threw most of the bottom end away on the engine that went bang at Donington. Put another engine in but that failed due to and oil starvation issue. So another engine was put in.
Popped to the dyno and all set up and running well.
First in class at Snetterton in very hot temps. Then off to Silverstone were we won our class again.
Then off to the big Porsche festival at Brand's Hatch. I took my other race car to this event, quali in 3rd and won the class by a good margin. The red car suffered a broken throttle cable whilst battling for 4th place.
Successful season, now a bit of rebuild time over winter. |

Bummer - what's up with the oil starvation? Using an Accusump/oil accumulator, crank scraper? _________________ Vaughan Scott

Agree with RACR on Accusump. Plumbing it is a nightmare, but after my experiments with water in the pan simulating a 1g turn last winter with the oil pickup on the side of the pan it is exposed to air. It really ought to be on the bottom of the pan which would be a true feat of fabrication. A crank scraper surely helps, but a Accusump is more positive. _________________ Mike

I could beat about the bush and give a load of old tosh on the oil starvation issue, but it was all my fault and I put the head gasket on round the wrong way and it blocked the oil circulation hole |

Oh. Shit. These things do happen; I seem to have ruined the new set of pistons I only just put in the #77 last year due to somewhat similar dumb things - seems to have gotten remarkably lean without my noticing... possibly issues in the injection system, or just bad adjustment, I don't yet know, but now we'll (probably) have to order up yet another set of JEs... meanwhile the car sits and the driver misses races... _________________ Vaughan Scott

The annoying thing was that I had trial fitted the gasket a couple of times to open the water jacket holes etc and then put in the wrong way round. Obviously didn't realise and spent a good while gtrying to get oil pressure. Good friend of mine says 'is the gasket round the right way' and I say 'course it is, isn't it?' and the more you think about it and go bollocks let's pop the head off. Taaadaaa |
